i have created "situations" within the grouping field of the track tagging within itunes. then created smart playlists which contain text strings from the grouping field...
for example, the track "Lady In Red - Chris de Burgh" has "Romantic" in the grouping field, "Rock Ya Body - Justin Timberlake" has "Party" in the same field.
my playlists then have "Contains Party in the grouping field" set up.
however, when i try to access these playlists on my ipod, the screen is blank!!! is this because of too much processing required? i would also like to have multiple situations per track, for instance "Rock Ya Body" will be both "Party" and "Cruising" so that it appears in either playlist.
this does seem to work within iTunes, so am assuming it relates to the iPod
I had read on iPodLounge a while back that the grouping field didn't update. It was probably a problem with the firmware.
It seems to be fixed now. I have the "iPod Updater 9-1-2004" installed and grouping works for me.
Try updating your firmware - you might have to re-sync all of your music and data back to the iPod.
