Smart Playlists Changing to Regular Playlists?

Questions
redline

Help! I can't find a solution to my problem. This is very frustrating because I have to recreate all my smart playlists from scratch. This doesn't occur everytime I open up iTunes but every few days it will.

I used to use Grouping tags for a lot of smart playlists but I stopped. Reason being when the smart playlists changed all the Grouping tags got deleted. However, they could be replenished by simply playing the song or getting info from it.

So now thinking it was a Grouping tag glitch I base a lot of my smart playlists on Comments. I'm still having the problem though.

Anyone have an idea what could be causing this? I miss my smart playlists!

 Artist Most Played?

Questions
redline

Hi

Is it possible to do a Smart Playlist of Artist Most Played? I've had a play around with the SP settings but can't see how to do it - mainly because of itunes working in Songs as the basic unit of everything! Any ideas?

 99 song challenge?

Questions
redline

I just bought an iPod interface for my car from Vais Technologies. It's pretty cool but the combination of gear I'm using has limitations.

In order to display text on my video screen, the car radio can only see the songs as playlists and playlists are limited to 99 songs. In order to have some sense of order, it has been suggested to make "26" playlists for the alphabet. An "A-B" playlist, etc. That sounds good on the surface but it's more complicated than that.

I'd like to use live update so that I'm not forever having to rearrange them as I add new music to the library.

I've tried a couple of things but it gets pretty funky.

The problem is that I have more Artists in a particular "letter" or "letter grouping" than is allowed by the 99 song limit. Not every artist beginning with "A" will fit in a 99 song playlist. It seems like I need multiple playlists per letter (ie. A1, A2, A3).

How do I create multiple playlists where the rules gather and distribute artists (beginning with the same letter) into playlists that don't duplicate cuts between playlists (mutually exclusive)?

A second problem is that with a 99 song limit, Artists get cut off in the middle of their "catalog" or worse, in the middle of an album.

I'm typing this hastily before leaving for work, so I hope it makes sense. I'll be happy to clarify but hope you'll have enough to turn your problem solving skills loose. I know I'll be thinking about it.

Thanks for your help

 Last X Number of Albums?

Questions
redline

How would I create a smart playlist that would list the last X number of CD's added to the library? I guess the last X number of Albums added to the library would work as well...but would prefer CDs. Thanks in advance,

Jim

 Identifying PodCasts?

Questions
redline

Is there an easy way to identify podcasts?

I Have a SPL that matches all songs in my collection. it weeds out audiobooks and other mp3's that are not actually songs. But there doens't seem to be a definitive way to identify a podcast, well by the mp3 attributes at least.

Can someone please shed light on this?

 Pseudo/Virtual Albums?

Questions
redline

Lets say I have all Beatles albums (which I do) but I want to be able to play the released 'Beatles Love Songs' or other Official Compilation Albums, that I DON'T have BUT have all the tracks for on other albums.

Now I know I can do this from a Playlist and that won't duplicate them, BUT it would be nice to be able to Select it from Artist and/or Album View as well and (also) see the Album Artwork for the Compilation (pseudo/virtual Album).

I dont think this is possible but would be interested to hear of alternate views here.

Cheers

Alan

 1 track albums?

Questions
redline

Hi,

I searched the archives for this issue, but it looks like nobody has this problem:

I have a huge mp3 collection from a friend with a lot of single mp3's. I thought to put them in a compilation for every genre.

It's too much work to edit the track info for all the single tracks, so I thought to make a smartplaylist. But: I can't filter on number of track in album.

I saw someone did make a applescript tool which deals with this problem. But: I run iTunes on MS-XP.

I don't know if this forum only for Apple/Mac-users... but has anyone an idea for this one-track solution, besides edit them seperatly?

Thanks.

Smart Playlist Selects Directly from the iPod?

Questions
redline

I want to create a smart playlist that selects tracks directly from my iPod, instead of from my library. This is because of the simple fact that my iPod is a 40GB… and my home PC is a mere 7GB. I have had to convert/back up all my mp3’s onto disc and then one my one transfer onto my iPod.

Is it possible to make a smart playlist that selects tracks directly from the iPod?

iPod Setup Using Album Smart Playlists?

Questions
redline

I have had an iPod for a few years now, but have only just stumbled across this site.

does everybody only use smart playlists to create a selection of random/never played songs?

or like me use smart playlists to house each album?

i have well over 5000 songs on my iPod and browsing through the artist menu causes problems because i have quiet a few complilations containing one song from many different artists. so the artists list is huge.

i very much like to be able to get to the album i want quickly and not have many sub menus to click through to get to where i want, like when building a website i try to follow the 3 clicks rule. anymore and people get bored or lost!

am i missing something, have read a few posts on here i dont seem to making the best use of my iPod.

any thoughts?
cheers
