   (personal rating, 2's are one step
      away from deletion)
Limit to -950 megs

Singles

I rip all my cds in mp3, while all the songs (usually singles) I purchase are AAC. I have made a "singles" smart playlist:


Kind - is - Protected AAC Audio File

This way, I get a clean playlist with all the songs I have downloaded.

Saving battery life on your iPod

One of the tips I was given when I got my iPod was to try and limit yourself to songs that are less than 9 minutes long.

Now, I realize that that tip is predicated on what bitrate the music is encoded at, but as I use the default 128bit AAC, I've created a smart playlist that helps with that.

Time is less than 9:00

Actually, as this is a random playlist, I also have a second line that excludes songs that are shorter than 1:00 as well.

Halloween Party Playlist

To host a halloween party with some great scary music, use keywords.

Create a Smart Playlist:


Match - any - of the following conditions

Name - contains - halloween
Name - contains - devil

monster, ghost, goblin, scary, spooky, etc...

Play at random and have fun!

dj sets

If you're like me, you can't stand the gaps that happen when you rip mix cds of your favorite DJs (or your own mixes). So you rip them as one giant track. I have a smart playlist that is set to catch most of the DJ sets without catching anything else:

Time - is greater than - 35:00

So far I haven't encountered any other genres or artists with single songs longer than 35:00. Godspeed You Black Emperor! comes close, though... I could imagine that audio books would be longer, but I don't have any.
