iTunes 4.1 (Mac version) lets AppleScript manipulate Play Count and Last Played tags. I've just posted two scripts that will assist you in re-setting these tags to whatever you like: New Last Played Date and New Play Count. Cheers!

I use this playlist to weed out lower quality tracks. Then, I replaced them with copies encoded at higher bit rates.
I screen out Audio Books and Spoken tracks because most are encoded at lower Bit Rates:
Match - All - of the following conditions:
Bit Rate - is less than - 160 - kbps
Genre - does not contain - Audio Book
Genre - does not contain - Spoken

If you have trouble with sub-par Sample Rates, swap the Bit Rate parameter with:
