Best way to add holiday music?

Questions
redline

I like to only play holiday music during the month of December, so I've traditionally removed these files from my library each year and archived the music.

Last year, I kept a copy of my iTunes Library file (with only holiday music remaining) so that I could retain my playcounts and ratings. Now that it is time to reintroduce these files into my main library, I'm wondering what the best way to do so would be.

Any ideas?

stop archiving! download iTunes Library Manager (http://www.malcolmadams.com/itunes/itinfo/ituneslibrarymanager.shtml) and create a second library of only christmas music. or hanukkah. or kwanza...

Yeah, I've played with that, but I need to actually merge the two libaries.

I'm thinking of building an applescript to copy the ratings and playcounts into the comments field, moving all the files into my main library, then copying the info back out.

How about giving your holiday tunes a genre of "Holiday". When the holidays are done, uncheck all of your tunes in the genre "Holiday". When it's holiday time again, go back and check them.

I suppose that's a possibility, but I just like to take them out to keep my library ultra clean.

I have a lot of holiday music.

IMHO, the library is somewhat irrelevant. It's the playlists that matter. With 15,000 items in my library, ranging from songs to soundbites to books to comedy bits to iTrip channels, playlists are the filters that really let me see what I need to see. That could be just me, though.

I guess I'm just lazy. I don't want to have to exclude the:

Christmas
Holday
Christmas-Comedy

..genres from each playlist. I haven't had a lot of luck with the checkboxes sticking.

All of my genres begin with Xmas (Xmas Jazz, Xmas Humor, etc.). It works much better IMHO if you keep your genres clean and organized.
