 Export Smart Playlist Criteria

Announcements
redline

Doug Adams has posted an awesome new script which will make the sharing of smart playlists a simply a matter sharing a file. Expect to see this tied into the next version of SmartPlaylists.com coming soon.

From Doug's Site:

You know how when you want to tell your pals how to set up This Really Cool Smart Playlist you have and you have to scratch out something like "Artist"-contains-"Manilow" + "Last Played" - is not in the last - 6 - months + "Bit Rate" - is less than - 56 on a piece of parchment and attach it to the leg of a carrier pigeon to have it delivered?

Well, you don't have to do that any more.

Export Smart Playlist Criteria will export just the criteria of a selected Smart Playlist to an XML file--similar to the "Export Song List..." command--which any iTunes can import using the "Import..." command in the File menu. When the XML file is imported a new Smart Playlist appears in the Source List ready for action. Now, you can email your Really Cool Smart Playlist criteria to your pals, or backup all your Smart Playlists to transfer to another computer. »

Check it out!

The latest version of iTunes has the ability to keep podcasts on a per podcast basis. This is accessed by right clicking each podcast and choosing "Do Not Auto Delete."

This functionality was previously only available using "Cast Away" from Wooden Brain Concepts. Check it out if you need more options.

Bug: Tunes 6.0.2 & Rating Stars in Smart Playlists

Announcements
redline

From Apple today: (as if we didn't notice...)

In iTunes 6.0.2 on a Mac, when you are configuring a Smart Playlist rule that includes My Rating, the stars you select to determine the ratings for the rule may not work as expected.

- If you select one star, two stars are entered.
- If you select two stars, four stars are entered.
- If you select three stars, five stars are entered.
- If you select four stars, five stars are entered.
- If you need a Smart Playlist that only lists ratings with three stars, then configure the Smart Playlist to match all if My Rating is greater than two and less than four.

Looks like another iTunes update will be coming our way.

Solution to Smart Playlists not dynamically on iPod!

Announcements
redline

From Apple today:

If you have an iPod with a Click Wheel, Smart Playlists may stop updating dynamically after you update your iPod with iPod Updater 2005-06-26 or later. For example, if you rate a song on your iPod, the rating appears, but that same song won't appear in a Smart Playlist based on the same rating on your iPod. But this can happen with a Smart Playlist based on any criteria.

Use the iPod Updater 2006-01-10 or later to resolve this.
Note: This issue does not affect iPod nano or Fifth Generation iPod.
